It has been a while since a new service has come along that completely transformed the way I did a common task. Yelp changed the way I eat and explore new cities. Google Maps transformed the way I got to my destinations. And the latest addition - PhoneTag has saved voicemail, and added more to it than I expected.
About 5mo ago I was very close to completely turning voicemail off on my phone, but before taking drastic action I decided to see if there were any alternate voicemail management options available. After researching some of the top contenders (SpinVox, Google Voice, etc) I came across Phonetag, and after reading other favorable reviews I decided to give their $9.95 “Tag40” plan a try.
Honestly, I love it. Just a few seconds after someone leaves me a voicemail I receive an email transcription of the voicemail with incredible accuracy and even proper punctuation, and the original voicemail attached as an MP3.
My EMail program makes phone numbers and email addresses clickable links when viewing them, so with a click I can add someone to my address book right from email. I never have to listen to a message two (or more) times to write down a number. I can organize my voicemail alongside my regular email messages using folders, groups, priorities, etc. Special voicemails can be archived on my computer forever with one click, and hilarious voicemails can be forwarded to anyone with an email address with absolute ease.
PhoneTag has seriously changed the way I manage my voicemails and I recommend it to anyone else out there who - like me - hated the old way of dealing with voicemail.
